On Tisha B’Av, we read the heartbreaking words of Megillat Eichah. ‘Eich’, ‘how.’ ‘Look how Jerusalem sits in solitude. How could it be?’ But there’s something strangely familiar about this word ‘eicha.’ It echoes another word that we’ve heard – ‘ayekah.’ All the way back in the Garden of Eden, moments after Adam and Eve eat from the Tree of Knowledge, they hear the voice of God say, ‘Ayekah’ – ‘Where are you?’ Is ‘Eicha’ hinting something? Is the exile from Jerusalem somehow connected to the exile from the Garden of Eden? Join Rabbi Fohrman as he explores the Garden of Eden story and its reverberations in Megillat Eicha – and never think about Tisha B’Av the same way again.
